Job Summary:
Scelzi Enterprises, Inc. is looking for a Production Painter with experience in spraying automotive finishes. Your knowledge in paint properties and mixing technologies will allow you to succeed as a production painter. From mixing paint, prim painting and final-coat painting, which includes a base coat/ clear coat process, you will take the job from start to finish.
 
Essential Functions:
  1. 1. Select paint according to vehicle manufacturer match paint colors.
  2. 2. Stir or thin paints, using power mixing equipment.
  3. 3. Dispose of hazardous waste in appropriate manner.
  4. 4. Remove grease, dirt, paint, or rust form vehicle surfaces in preparation for paint application using abrasives, solvents, and brushes.
  5. 5. Pour paint into spray guns and adjust nozzle and paint mixes for proper paint flow and coating thickness.
  6. 6. Monitor painting operations to identify flaws, such as blisters or streaks, fish eyes, runs, and correct their causes.
  7. 7. Fill small dents or scratches with body fillers and smooth surfaces to prepare vehicles for painting.
  8. 8. Clean equipment and work areas.
  9. 9. Apply primer over any repairs made to vehicle surfaces.
  10. 10. Adjust controls on paint booth / dry room, to speed the drying of vehicles between coats.
  11. 11. Allows the sprayed product to dry and touch up any missed spots.
  12. 12. Crawling, laying on back, fitting in tight areas to access areas to be painted.
  13. 13. Applies coats of paint to exterior surfaces.
  14. 14. Reads work order or receives instructions from supervisor.
  15. 15. Smooths surfaces, using sandpaper and removes old paint from surfaces using paint remover to prepare surfaces for painting.
  16. 16. Fills holes, and joints with caulk, putty, or other filler, using caulking gun and putty knife that paint preppers might have missed.
  17. 17. Paints surfaces using spray gun.
  18. 18. Erects or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground level.
 
Competencies/Qualifications
  1. A. Must be able to read work orders
  2. B. Ability to mix paint and maintain spray equipment
  3. C. Ability to maintain quality control
  4. D. Able to lift 50 lbs (periodically)
  5. E. Critical Thinking
  6. F. Operations Monitoring
  7. G. Ability to blend and touch-up is a plus
 
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
  1. A. Knowledge of equipment maintenance for paint gun / pressure pot & fresh air equipment.
  2. B. nowledge of all aspect of prepping, priming, and painting
 
Work Environment
This job operates in a shop production environment. Includes exposure to sounds and noise level that are distracting or uncomfortable. Requires working in a very hot (above 90 degrees F) or very cold (below 32 degrees F) temperatures. Requires working in non-controlled environmental conditions. Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people. Requires exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings. Requires exposure to hazardous equipment.
 
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift 50lbs periodically. Requires walking, standing, squatting, bending, climbing, kneeling, crawling, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching, repetitive movement, using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls.
 
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days are Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.
 
Required Education and Experience
  1. 1. Candidate must have at least 5 years of spraying paint application experience.
  2. 2. Working knowledge of VOC laws and Air Quality regulations
  3. 3. Experience in keeping VOC logs, Fresh Air & Booth logs.
 
Preferred Education and Experience
At least 5 years of large truck body or automotive paint experience.
 
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Must pass basic math test
Must pass pre-employment drug test, physical, and respiratory test.
